I don’t know why I’ve waited this long to talk about one of my favorite cheap products, but here goes…
Blistex Deep Renewal! For less than $3, you get a product that feels like putting butter – excuse me, butta – on your lips. I’ve never been much of a lip balm fan, but this stuff is awesome. It feels so much better than ChapStick.
So goodbye, Cherry ChapStick. We’ve been friends since I was little, but you’ve been outdone. At least you still have Katy Perry.
This one’s for Seattle peeps only…

Tweed in Greenwood (on 85th, a couple blocks east of Greenwood Ave.) is closing Sept. 27, and they’re having a good clearance sale. All regularly priced items are buy one, get one free, and the sale stuff is 50% off. Also, some of the bags are 50% off.
I like Tweed, but I don’t usually shop there because it’s expensive. But the BOGO deal is pretty good.
They also have a a lot of nice men’s stuff.

Tonight I made one of my favorite dishes: Smoked salmon pasta.
I can’t say there’s any one thing truly outstanding about it, but I just really like it. It’s pretty and it’s like something I’d get in a restaurant. And I’m a sucker for smoked salmon, so when you add lemon, pinenuts, dill, and pasta, I’m happy! The recipe is pretty flexible; I substituted skim milk and a pat of butter for the cream and onions for the shallots. And because I’ve been home during the day and watching Rachael Ray, I threw on some parmesan before serving. Delicious!
I would like to make this more often, but I have a hard time paying for smoked salmon. I really like it, but it’s kind of expensive for the amount that you get.
But I did manage to take advantage of a good deal at the grocery store last week – QFC had giant packages of blueberries for $3.88! I made blueberry crisp, which uses 6 cups of blueberries, so it worked out well.
I substituted walnuts for pecans, and I regret that. The smokey walnut flavor just doesn’t work. But I still like the recipe – it’s a little bit healthier than some of the other blueberry desserts I was considering making. The dish is mostly blueberries with just a little bit of crumble on top, and it only uses half a stick of butter.

It’s a new month (I can’t believe it’s already September!), and with it comes a new batch of $5 album downloads from Amazon.com.
This month, I have to say I’m not super impressed. But there’s a few notables: The Rolling Stones, The Roots, KCRW’s Sounds Eclectic, and the “I Am Sam” soundtrack which features some pretty decent Beatles covers - my favorites being Ben Folds’ “Golden Slumbers,” Aimee Mann’s “Two of Us,” and Stereophonics’ “Don’t Let Me Down.”
